Having watched a few videos and also demonstrations on Create & Craft TV I decided to bite the bullet and make my first quilt. I had started following Sarah Payne on Facebook as I liked her demons on TV. She had a good way of explaining things so when she started doing a quilt hamper I knew I had to start there. What I liked about it was that the hampers included the fabric for the quilt top, wadding, backing fabric full instructions and a ruler. In addition she also had a dedicated Facebook page for the hampers and did Facebook lives and videos. Any questions, either Sarah or someone else was able to assist.
My first ever quilt was not Sarah’s first hamper, but it was the first one I loved. A Dresden plate.
Watching Sarah demonstrating how to make this looked so simple, I had to try it. Yes some of the points did not quite match and I had issues catching the circle and quarter circles but I had made my first quilt.
I learnt so much during the process, not just all the new quilt terms, but I learnt how to make the Dresden blades, the circles for the centre, how to make a quilt sandwich, how to bind and lastly echo quilt.
I loved it so much it was such a fun, but frustrating process.
I loved the ice blue Christmas themed fabric, and while it wasn’t a huge quilt, it’s a nice lap quilt which comes out at Christmas time now!
